About

What this site is

A Virginia reference for one narrow question, who deals with a dead animal, attached to a phone number for the cases where the answer is that no public service will.

Why it exists

We found no Virginia statute or Department of Wildlife Resources rule that names anyone to take a dead wild animal off your property, so the answer is spread across county pages, city codes and state agency guidance. Fairfax County (except suspected rabies) and Loudoun County say in writing that they do not pick up carcasses. Chesapeake says it will not enter private property to remove dead animals. Norfolk collects only at the curb line, and Arlington County's animal control lists five species it will pick up.

The locations page and the guides put that in one place. Each statement was taken from the agency's own page or rule, and the date it was read is recorded on the sources page.

How it makes money

Virginia Dead Animal Removal sells advertising and routes the calls that advertising brings in. It is neither a wildlife company nor a removal contractor. No carcass is collected, carried or disposed of under this name, and there is no premises, no vehicle, no field staff and no permit held behind it.

Where an independent operator covers an address, that operator does the work, sets the price, invoices the customer directly and is responsible for their own disposal. We make no claim about any operator's permits or insurance.

What it does not claim

  • No coverage claim. Calls route by ZIP where an operator covers the address, and whether one covers yours is settled on the call.
  • No prices. The independent operator who covers an address sets the price, so any figure here would be invented.
  • No arrival window and no round-the-clock claim.
  • No licensing, insurance or certification claims of any kind. DWR issues a Commercial Nuisance Animal Permit and its conditions mention carcasses on a homeowner's property, but we found no DWR text saying a carcass-only business must hold one, and live-wildlife trapping and pesticide work are regulated separately. None of that is a claim this site could make about anybody.
  • No reviews and no rating. The work is done by independent operators, not by this site.

When we say it is not your job

Some calls belong to somebody else: a city street, a county road, a state highway, or an animal at a Norfolk curb line.

Corrections

Each government statement names its source and the date it was read, and they are all listed at sources. Agencies change their pages. If something here is out of date or wrong, say so through the contact form and it will be checked and fixed.
